Italian Sausage Pasta with Peppers

This sausage and pepper pasta skillet is loaded with fresh bell peppers, zucchini, onion, garlic, sweet Italian sausage, and marinara. This is a quick weeknight dinner that everyone will love.
Today I have a delicious pasta dish to share with you: Italian Sausage Pasta with Peppers! This dish is not only easy to prepare but also incredibly satisfying, featuring a medley of pasta, sautéed bell peppers and onions, crumbled sweet Italian sausage, zucchini, marinara sauce, and a blend of flavorful spices.

You can choose between spicy, sweet, or mild Italian sausage to suit your taste. This dish is a perfect option for a quick weeknight dinner, especially when served alongside a fresh salad and some crusty bread. Pasta is truly my biggest weakness, especially when it's filled with cheese or combined with fresh tomatoes and basil, or tossed in a simple marinara sauce.

I found this recipe a couple months back and I finally got around to trying it out. While I made a few minor adjustments, I mostly stayed true to the original recipe. I love that this recipe uses Rotini pasta because of  it's appealing shape and how the marinara sauce clings to the pasta. If Rotini isn't available, ziti or penne are great alternatives.

I also added a colorful mix of green and yellow peppers, and opted for zucchini instead of broccoli, as its mild sweetness complements Italian flavors better. I can honestly say that I have yet to find a pasta dish I didn't enjoy, and this one did not disappoint. If you're a pasta lover and looking for a new dinner idea, I highly recommend giving this dish a try.

Here's the ingredients you will need:

  • PASTA: Rotini pasta is best, but you can also use Zit or Penne pasta.
  • SAUSAGE: Spicy, sweet or mild Italian Sausage is best. Do not use ground beef or you will miss out on all the flavors from the Italian sausage.
  • VEGETABLES: greenyellow and red bell peppers for their sweetness and zucchini instead of broccoli. Zucchini provides a mild, sweet flavor, and pairs better with Italian dishes.
  • ONION & GARLICare frequently paired together in hearty pasta dishes, often accompanied by olive oil, Parmesan, and herbs like basil.
  • MARINARA SAUCE: I use my home canned Marinara sauce, but you can also use store bought. I like Ragu's bell pepper & mushroom or roasted red pepper & onion.
  • SPICES: Oregano and basil to give this dish is Italian flavor and a bit of garlic powder.
  • PARMESAN CHEESE: fresh for garnish.
