A deliciously easy 4 ingredient slow cooker chicken recipe!

Today's chicken recipe is simple and delicious. You literally just toss everything in the crock pot, cover and let it do it's magic. I initially saw this recipe on Holly's blog, but she used pork chops. Since my freezer was full of chicken breasts I adapted the recipe just a bit.
One of my goals for the New Year is to use my crock pot on a regular basis. I'm not sure why I don't use it more, because it's a huge time saver. Not to mention slow cooked food is so much more flavorful and tender.
One of my goals for the New Year is to use my crock pot on a regular basis. I'm not sure why I don't use it more, because it's a huge time saver. Not to mention slow cooked food is so much more flavorful and tender.
This Ranch House Chicken turned out perfectly tender with a delicious sauce. The combination of the chicken soup and the ranch dressing were fabulous. I also added a tad of sour cream which gave the sauce a nice tang. I highly recommend this chicken dish, so file it away in your recipe box, because you will be making it more than just once.
This recipe only requires a few steps. Spray a 6 quart or larger crock pot with non stick spray, place the chicken inside. In a small bowl add the sour cream or yogurt, and cream of chicken soup. Mix together to combine. Pour the soup mixture over the chicken, and sprinkle with the dry ranch dressing packet. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours. Serve chicken and gravy over mashed potatoes, rice or pasta.

This looks delicious with chicken! I could just dive right into your photos, Tina. Yum.
I make this same recipe except use cream cheese instead of sour cream! It's a family favorite!
I think this will be on the menu this week. Looks yummy.
what if you do not have sour cream?
You can just leave the sour cream out if you don't have it on hand. It add's a nice tang to the sauce, but still great without it.
If you were to start with frozen chicken, how long should you cook it for? Looks super yummy!
If i dont have ranch seasoning can i use ranch dressing(the stuff in the bottle that you put on salads) instead
We had this tonight! Its a keeper!!!
@Karen, this article can help answer that question? for you. I had to look it up, beccause I don't usually add frozen chicken to the crock pot. http://www.ehow.com/facts_5477300_can-put-frozen-chicken-crockpot.html
@Natasha, I have never tried it with bottled ranch dressing. If you try it keep in mind the results may be way different.
Oh my goodness that looks fantastic! I'm wanting to have a plateful now..and it's still breakfast time! =) Thanks for sharing and inspiring me to use my crockpot more too.
Looks yummy. I was wondering if you can post the recipe for the pork chops since I am always looking for new ways to cook them . Thanks!
This looks so yummy can't wait to try it .
Tina-
Is this 6 FULL Chicken Breasts or 6 Chicken Breast Halves?
@Lynne, It's (6) full chicken breasts. I used chicken tenderloins this particular time.
@Shauna, if you click on the links at the end of the post (adapted from) life as a lofthouse or picky palate it will take you to the pork chop recipe.
I love crock pot recipes. Looking forward to making this.
Yum Tina! I have this in the crock right now. I decided to throw some frozen pearl onions on the bottom first and i'm gonna throw in a cup of frozen peas the last hour. I simply can't wait to eat! I'll let you know how it was.
You never disappoint Tina. This was so delicious! Comfort food for sure. :-)
Thanks!
@Lynne,
Yay I'm so glad you liked it. I will keep the onions and peas in mind for next time. Don't just love how easy this recipe is. Another great crock pot hit.
The picture looks yummy and healthy, I better try this healthy recipe that you've shared with us. I am tired of eating too much pork, it makes me feel weak. I want to go lite.
This was amazing! I added 2 tbsp of Bacon bits, it was to die for!! Thanks Tina :)
That sounds way too easy and looks amazing. Love simple dinners. Thanks :)
I just did a similar recipe in my crockpot using boneless pork chops and minus the sour cream. It is freezer friendly before cooking. Just thaw and drop in the crock pot. Easy Peasy!
I use pork chops as well but add potatoes to the bottom of the crock pot, add a layer of fresh cabbage and then the meat. Mix all sauce ingrediants together and add to crock pot. Cook as directed here. Wonderfull meal.
We have been sick in our house (all 7 of us) for 18 days, but whose counting:( In this time I have just discovered your blog, which I am really enjoying. I made this recipe one night because I had everything on hand and it looked like something I had the energy to make. We loved it. It was a warm and good meal for a bunch of sick people. Tonight we are trying another recipe. Thanks so much. I am always looking for something new to try:)
Thank you for this recipe! This was sooooo good! I made it with fat free cream of chicken soup and light sour cream (to cut a few calories) and it was SO good. My son, who is so picky, said, "Mama this is the best meal you've ever made!" We will definitely repeat this meal often!
Just made this today it was SOOO easy and good. Your blog is inspiring me to be a better cook
I have a newer crockpot and it seems to cook chicken faster. Typically on low it is done in about 4 hours. Does anyone else have this same issue?
The recipe calls for 1 packet of ranch seasoning mix.The packets range from .4 oz to 1.4 oz.Could you make a recommendation on what size to use please?
I have never seen a Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix packet in a .4 oz size. The only ones I have found in the store are 1 oz packets. I looked online and only see 1 oz as well.
Tina I made this again... this time with homemade cream of chicken soup (found a recipe online) and homemade dry ranch dressing (again found recipe online)..
I LOVE this meal and its soooooo easier to make, I literally just had to have chicken on hand.
Its just me and my daughter so making this with 6 chicken breasts might make a bit too much. Is it possible to make only 3? Any suggestions would be great, thanks. It looks delicious!!
Do you think I would be able to use cream of mushroom instead of chicken? I have it in the pantry and only one cream of chicken, doh!
It states in the recipe that it is a 1 oz package of ranch dressing mix.
Do you add 2 10ounce condensed soup or do you add water per soup instructions before adding to crock pot. Thanks.
You just add the cream of chicken soup and not the water.
Hi Tina. I would like to cut this recipe in half because 6 breasts is too much for my husband and I. Should I still add the 2 cans of soup or would it be fine with 1? Thnaks!
Do you think this recipe would work with chicken thighs or chicken legs/wings-with the skin on?
Is that gravy on the chicken or the sauce from cooking in soup and ranch?
It's the sauce/gravy from cooking the chicken in the crock pot.
This was SO good! I'm adding this to my family recipe scrapbook.
Could I use plain yogurt instead of greek? Thanks!
Hi Beth,
Plain or Plain Greek yogurt works just as well.
I made this with pork chops,,delish, going to make this for tomorrows dinner,,
I'm making it now, hope it turns out good ..lol
Made this yesterday. I put the chicken in frozen & sprinkled a little Lawry seasoning over the breasts. Mixed the other ingredients in a bowl & spread on top. Cooked on high for 3 hours, turned to low for another 6 hours. Served the sauce over brown rice. It was delicious. Will be making this often. The sauce would be great on mashed potatoes too.
This will be my third time making this. It is so good! We love to shred the chicken and serve it over biscuits with mashed potatoes and green beans. I cut the recipe in half and used fat free soup and reduced fat sour cream. I also didn't have any Ranch dressing packets so I made my own. Can't wait for dinner. Yummy!
Thanks for posting; looks delicious. I wouldn't be able to have an instructional blog like this because I have no patience for the stupid questions people ask. Seriously, people?
Very good! I didn't like the MSG in the Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing, so I used a packet of Good Season's Garlic & Herb Salad Dressing & Recipe Mix instead. My family loved it. Thanks for sharing!
I don't have any cream of chicken soup on hand. Do you recommend any substitutions?
You can do cream of celery or make you own cream of chicken soup. Here is a really good recipe: http://centercutcook.com/cream-soup-substitute/
Did you try it with the dressing? i was curious too...
I made this tonight and it's my new favorite crock pot recipe! The sauce was Soooooo good. I used a package of boneless, skinless chicken thighs, and a package of chicken tenderloin. I served it with mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli and warm rolls. It's hard to believe something so easy could be so good. One problem: I ate way too much - it was THAT good! Thanks for another 'make again' (and again) recipe. :)
Yummm looks delicious!
That plate of food looks so good. I saw this on FB, so had to stop over for a look. Nice to find your blog and I'll be trying this recipe soon.
I JUST pulled chicken from my freezer and saw this.. the only problem is it's frozen... would this work with frozen chicken? Would it just take a little longer?
What a great recipe... Thanks for sharing. While searching my fridge for sour cream or cream cheese (found neither)... my eye caught a bottle of white wine... poured some of this in and so not sure what it would be like without it, but amazing with a little white wine. Thanks again for the great recipe idea!! So easy I will for sure keep this on our rotation of dinners!
Want to make with whole chicken wondering if anyone has tried it??
Do you mix the sour cream and soup together?
i have a 7 quart crock pot. are there any changes i need to make to make this?
Do u in use sour cream and yogart, or just one of them. blueyedtexan1954@aol.com
Add potatoes to make up the difference. Yum
Ok, I'm trying tonight this but had to improvise since I didn't have all of the ings. on hand. One dzn. skinned drumsticks, Chex Mix seasoning & 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt with 3 cans of Cream of Chicken soup. Cooking on high in crockpot for 4 hrs. We'll soon find out if it's worthy:). Thanks for the idea! PS Serving with chunky mashed red potatoes & broccoli florets.
How much cream cheese did you use? Thank you
I'd thete a recipe for your taters as well? The ones in the pic?
Is there*? Stupid auto correct. :/
I have made this using just a bottle of hidden Valley dressing, some sauteed mushrooms, served with pasta and a side of steamed broccoli. YUM
Hi, I found your website by chance, lucky me! Thank you so much for this super easy recipe. I have it in my Crockpot now, first time making it, can't wait to try it!! It smells delicious!!! For anyone that's curious, I just put in 3 chicken breast with 1 can of soup and half a package of Ranch dressing. Can't wait for supper!!!!
I am making this right now! Cannot wait to try it for supper! Thanks for the great idea, you have a new fan in me. :)
Trying this now! I make something similar with cream cheese instead of sour cream, and a packet of Italian dressing instead of Ranch. Can't wait to taste this one!!
I was cooking for two, so I cut the recipe in half. I used reduced fat cream of chicken soup, plain yogurt, & half a pack of ranch. The sauce was soo good. Will put this in the rotation!
yummy. this sounds awesome. Thank you for posting this up. going to give this a go.
Simon
Glad someone said what I've been thinking... lol!
Hey everyone just making this now did anyone else's come out looking a little curdled from the sour cream?
Mine is in the crockpot now... Gravy doesn't look smooth!!! A little curdled... How'l did yours turn out?
You are suppose to mix the sour cream and the soup together before mixing. Then add the mixture over the chicken and then sprinkle the ranch dressing on top. I have never had a issue with curdling.
I forgot to mention in my previous comment for those using frozen chicken that at 4-5 hours on low, my frozen chicken was cooked and tender. Good luck!
Had to improvise i used two packets dry ranch two cans cream of chicken soup half can our evaporated milk
I just found this recipe and had to try it. I'm cooking it now but I mistakenly mixed the ranch packet with the cream of chicken soup and sour cream, I'm hoping it still turns out as good as it sounds!! Thanks for the recipe!
Amanda that's OK it all gets mixed in together as it cooks anyways. LMK how you like it. :)
Made this substituting golden mushroom soup instead of cream of chicken, and cutting up an onion into crockpot along with other ingredients. It turned out delicious!!
I was thinking the same thing. I mean, if you're cutting the recipe in half, why would you still use 2 cans of soup? Tina has a lot of patience.
Then you haven't really made this. I'm sure your recipe is very good, but you can't really say you've made this paticular dish unless you've followed the exact recipe.
Approximately how many pounds of chicken are we talking? Sometimes the chicken breasts are huge and other times they are tiny!
Hi - I would love to try this recipe, but I'm on Weight Watchers and need to know the weight of the chicken to use. Can you estimate about how much chicken you used for 6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts?
I was making it for my husband and myself! So I cut the recipe in half! I used 1 can of the cream of chicken and mushroom combo and my sour cream was expired 😊 so I used cream cheese. Yummy, but I should have used the full recipe with 2 breasts! There wasn't enough sauce (for me!!!) to pour over the rice! I will be adding the full recipe to my menu plans!! Thank You!
so did anyone ever try this recipe with ranch dressing in a bottle and how did it turn out? all i have is ranch in a bottle like what you would put on salads-+
This is an absolute favorite for my family. Since the chicken is fall apart tender when it is finished cooking we just go ahead and shred it. We serve it over biscuits or mashed potatoes. Delicious!!!
