Technique Enamel Light Weight Cast Iron Skillet Review & Giveaway {Recipe: Ham & Cheese Oven Omelet}

"Congrats to Heather Hanson. She was the Winner
of the Technique Teflon Light Weight Cast Iron Skillet Set."

Did you know that May is National Egg Month? We eat a lot of eggs in our house, so I thought I would share a recipe for a Ham & Cheese Oven Omelet that I've been wanting to make for quite sometime.

Last week I had the opportunity to try out the new Technique Teflon Light Weight Cast Iron Skillet Set. If you know me than you know I have a love for cast iron skillets like no other. When I was contacted about reviewing the skillet line I was quite excited.

This was the very first Teflon® nonstick coating system designed for cast iron. Finally someone made a light weight non - stick cast iron skillet. I thought the oven omelet would be the perfect recipe to try out in the large skillet.

Don't get me wrong I still love my old fashioned cast iron skillets, but sometimes I need a good skillet that offers a true non stick surface. Especially one that is oven safe just like my original cast iron skillets.

Here is a little information about the new cast iron skillet set. The Technique® Light Weight Cast Iron comes in a 2 piece set and comes in 3 different colors (blue, black and red). Each pan is coated with DuPont™ Teflon® Scratchguard Ultra, so it is safe to use with metal utensils (this was my favorite part).

• No need to use butter or oil
• Even and energy efficient heating
• Easy clean up
• It’s available in three colors (blue, black and red).
• Includes 10-1/2″ fry pan and 8″ fry pan
• Made without PFOA
• The first DuPont 4-coat nonstick Teflon system designed solely for cast iron
• It is safe to use with metal utensils.
• Technique cast iron pan is at least 40% lighter than traditional cast iron pans
• Stainless steel riveted handles
• Porcelain enamel exterior
• Dishwasher-safe; oven-safe to 500F
• Lifetime Limited Manufacturer’s Warranty
• It is coated with DuPont™ Teflon® Scratchguard Ultra

I was excited to get started so I could find out if the new cast iron skillets really were non stick. I had to read through the specifications a couple times, because I couldn't believe that these beautiful skillets really were oven safe, but they were. This was the perfect skillet to try out my new egg recipe.

The ingredients you will need:
8 eggs, 1 - cup milk, 1 - cup cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup cooked ham, green onions (optional)and salt & pepper.

When I was using these new pans I was really impressed with how smooth and non stick the Teflon coating was. There was no need for any butter or oil while cooking. I did use a smidgen of butter for flavor before adding the egg mixture, but that was it.

Like I mentioned above I was really nervous about placing the skillet in the oven, but I did it. The whole time the omelet was baking I kept thinking that something was going to go wrong, but nothing happened.

When the omelet was done baking it slid right out of the pan. There was no egg residue left at all. All the pan needed was a little soap and water and that was it. I could actually just dry out the skillet and store it back in the cabinet.

I can't do that with my regular cast iron skillets. They need to be cleaned and re seasoned with each use. Don't forget these skillets are also dishwasher safe. I have to say I'm very impressed with Teflons new cast iron skillet/fry pan set. Most of all Im even more impressed with their price ($39.84) for the set.

If you're looking to purchase a new skillet set I highly recommend the Technique Cast iron set. From what I can tell you can only get them on the QVC channel at this time, but hopefully they will be available in stores soon.

Would you like to try out these beautiful skillets? Well you can, because one lucky reader of Mommy's Kitchen will win a 2 piece set of DuPont Teflon Technique Light Weight Cast Iron Skillet Set. Just follow the rules below for your chance to win.

Ham & Cheese Oven Omelet

Ingredients:
8 - eggs
1 - cup milk
1 - cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 - cup cubed fully cooked ham
2 - green onions, chopped
salt & pepper to taste

Directions:
In a large bowl, whisk eggs and milk. Stir in the cheese, ham and onions.
Pour into a buttered 10 1/2 inch oven safe skillet or a greased 8 x 8 inch baking dish.

Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 40-45 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting.

Note: The skillet size I used is 10 1/2 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches deep.
