Quick Gound Beef Stroganoff

When I get in a ground beef stump. Ground Beef Stroganoff is usually the meal that I make.  It's really simple to prepare and taste great. So if you are in a rush and want to get a hot meal on the table in no time this is it!!! 

I can always depend on this dish to turn out every time it's actually a no fail dish in my book. It's very versatile and can be served not only over noodles but rice or mashed potatoes as well.

I cant even remember for the life of me where I got this recipe. It's one of those recipes you just have stuck in the back of your head somewhere and you remember all the ingredients.

My family gets bored really fast of the same old same old meals so they say. I am learning it's not easy trying to please everyone in my house. We all have such different tastes in food, some like this and some like that.

Especially my husband he dislikes all the things that I love. Mushrooms being a big one, but I gotta have my mushrooms in my stroganoff it just wouldn't be the same if i didn't add them. 

The way I see it if you don't like them you can pick them out. Why should mama have to suffer, I mean really I'm the one slaving over the stove preparing all this yummy food LOL.


Brown & cook hamburger with chopped onion, salt and pepper. While the meat is browning start the noodles, rice or mashed potatoes.



Drain off grease drippings.



add the cream of mushroom soup & prepared gravy mix (according to package directions) to the drained hamburger. Stir over low - medium heat.


simmer mixture until mixture begins to thicken about 10 - 15 minutes.

Add the sour cream and mushrooms and mix until thoroughly blended into the gravy mixture.



Just add a vegetable and hot rolls or even a salad and you have a great tasting meal that you can whip up in a flash.






Quick Ground Beef Stroganoff

1 - lb. hamburger or ground turkey
1 - 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
1 - packet brown gravy mix
1 - cup water
1/2 - cup sour cream
2 - tbsp. chopped onion
salt & pepper (to taste)
1 - 4oz can sliced mushrooms
egg noodles, rice or mashed potatoes

Brown ground beef or turkey with chopped onion, salt and pepper. While the meat is browning, Start the noodles, rice or mashed potatoes to cook. 

Drain off any grease from the meat. Add cream of mushroom soup, gravy mix and water. Mix to combine. 

Simmer over low heat for about about 10-15 minutes or until the mixture thicken and the meat is cooked through.  

Add mushrooms and the sour cream mix until thoroughly blended. 

Serve over cooked noodles, mashed potatoes or rice.

Hey Tina! I tried this one- quick, easy and real good. I cut the mushrooms up VERY small. Johns the same way as Corey is.. I added some chopped small frozen green beans into the mixture and it was yummy. Hope u guys had a good holiday it was raining all day here, and we still bbq'd. xo

Thank you Amy I would of never thought of tossing green beans in the mixture, I bet that was good. Our 4th was hot and humid. We will be grilling tonight instead. The day got away from us.

Hi Tina, I used your recipe and changed it up a little for dinner last night. Love it! I like the gravy addition, my mom's recipe is very similar just no gravy mix.

Hi there...I found your blog sometime ago and have been following it. I've made this dish for years, actually it was my favorite meal growing up and still is (I'm 68 yrs old). My family called it just "Hamburger w/mushroom soup". I make mine very similar, just don't add the mushrooms or gravy mix. I add 3/4ths of a can of water using the soup can. On occasion I've added some sour cream. My husband loves this and I serve it over hot rice.

We had this last night and loved how quick and easy it was. I rough chopped some sliced fresh mushrooms and cooked them with the beef and onions. I think the brown gravy is a great addition. Thank you!

I love simple ground beef recipes and this is a personal favorite. My recipe for ground beef stroganoff is very similar except that it skips the gravy mix and calls for a little bit of tomato paste. Love quick and easy skillet dishes like this.

My first time ever making stroganoff and I've been married almost 40yrs. This was excellent, can't believe I waited so long. I served it over mash potatoes, I also used low fat sour cream. Just the 2 of us so I cut the recipe in half. Absolutely delicious, a real keeper.

Found this recipe from your April Monthly Meal plan. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can't remember where my stroghanoff recipe came from. My mom made it a lot growing up, so I think it's burned into my memory. This looks yummy!

Hi again Tina! I am still using this recipe, but now I make my own gluten free cream of mushroom soup & gf beef gravy. I've also used sliced steak, but love the ground beef and it's more budget friendly. :)

Made this for dinner last night-only thing we changed was I added garlic because garlic makes everything better-plus I try to keep the vampire away but he keeps sleeping in my bed anyhow :) Sauce makes ma=ore than you would think-fed my family of 4 plus my 6 year old had 2 servings to easily equal 1 adult serving and we had leftovers. My picky 8 year old daughter even ate the mushrooms and enjoyed. New to your blog-I have several recipes on my 2 week meal plan. So excited to find you!

I got a similar recipe 47 years ago from a graduate school friend of my husband. We have been enjoying it ever since. It is very fast to prepare, in the time it takes to cook the noodles dinner it done. Great for working Moms! My recipe calls for 1 lb hamburger, 2 cans mushroom soup, s/p, some garlic powder, about 3 T paprika, and 16 oz container lt sour cream, and if you like spicy cayenne pepper to taste. Oops forgot 1 chopped onion. Just put the water on to boil, add the noodles and cook. While the water heats chop the onion and put it in a skillet with the meat and brown and drain. Add the spices and s/p, then the mushroom soup, heat to boiling and add the sour cream. Bring up to almost boiling. Drain the noodles and mix in the sauce. Dinner is ready!!! I usually add some green beans or a salad for some veggies. Delish!!!
