How to make a Simple Beginners Crochet Baby Blanket

❤ How to make a Simple Beginners Crochet Baby Blanket

Hi Friends! I recently tried my hand at crocheting my first baby blanket. Just before Christmas my first grand child was born and I'm over the moon in love with her. I thought it was only fitting to make her a soft baby blanket with my favorite blanket yarn. When it comes to crocheting, I always try to keep it simple. Mainly because I'm pretty much still a beginner myself. I've crocheted in the past, but mostly just simple projects like wash cloths. I never go crazy with too many colors and I always choose a simple stitch and pattern.

Most times I follow along on You Tube because it helps to watch and crochet at the same time. For this project I used a beginner friendly baby blanket pattern (half -double crochet and single crochet stitch for the border) and used the softest Bernat Blanket Yarn. I chose vintage white for the main color and pitter patter for the accent color (border). This blanket only took two evenings to crochet and was really simple once you got started. If you're looking for a simple fluffy blanket to crochet, I think this is the one.

This is my beautiful grand daughter Mallory Blake aka ❤ my little love bug ❤ sleeping with her blanket that I crocheted for her. I made her blanket a tad bit bigger than called for in the video directions so she could use it longer, but feel free to make it however large you choose.

I have also included some step-by-step directions below and a video tutorial at the end of this post by Sewrella to help you better understand the steps in making this simple blanket.

Begin by making a foundation chain by chaining 51. HDC (half double crochet) in the first stitch.

Continue throughout the first row until you reach the end, chain 1 and turn your work.

Crochet a half double crochet again in the second row, chain 1 and turn.

Repeat stitches for a total of 36 rows.

st (slip stitch) to join at the end. Weave in tails to finish off.

Choose anywhere on the blanket to start the border (I usually choose the middle) using an accent color.

single crochet around the whole blanket

chaining 3 in each corner, st (slip stitch) to join at the end and weave in tails.
