Layered BLT Salad

I love BLT sandwiches, especially in the summer when tomatoes are fresh and plentiful. This BLT Salad showcases the flavors of that Classic American Sandwich Salad Style. I had some tomatoes to use up, finally the tomatoes in the garden have come to an end. Summer in Texas lasts longer than most places so hopefully summer is gone and we can start to enjoy some cooler weather now. Like I mentioned above I love BL T's, If you love them then you will like this salad. It's a nice change up from your usual dinner salad. We grilled some brats and beans, I have been wanting to make this salad ever since I saw the recipe, but I kept forgetting. I thought it would go perfect with our meal.

In the end I thought it turned out great, it was so easy to prepare and tasted really good. My oldest son thought the dressing was a bit sweet so you may want to use less sugar in the dressing, I used about a tablespoon and a half. So in the recipe below i only put one tablespoon. Other than that he said it was good. The original recipe called for Miracle Whip, but my husband and son both hate Miracle Whip. So I used a different dressing recipe i had used in a previous salad. I think the mayonnaise and the sour cream compliment each other nicely, I added the sugar for a bit of sweetness similar in miracle whip. So if you are looking for a different twist on a salad this would be perfect.

These are the ingredients you will need: 1 bag classic or American blend bagged salad or romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cooked bacon, mayonnaise, sour cream and sugar.

Cut up the tomatoes in to bite size pieces.

start by adding a layer of salad to the bottom of the bowl. Then a layer of tomatoes and bacon.

add mayonnaise to a separate bowl,

then the sour cream

and sugar and taste to get just the right amount of sweetness, we are not talking sweet just a bit.

mix to blend.

add a layer of dressing on top of the bacon and tomatoes. Sprinkle with a bit of the Mrs Dash seasoning or pepper.

then do another layer of salad, tomatoes and bacon. Then pour the rest of the dressing mixture on top season with a sprinkle with some of the seasoning or pepper.

Cover with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours so the flavors can blend.

Layered BLT Salad

1 - pound thick-sliced bacon
2 large heads romaine lettuce, washed, dried and cut into bite-sized pieces or 1 bag of salad mix
3 large ripe tomatoes (1-1/2 pounds), cored and cut into bite-sized pieces
1 tsp - Mrs Dash Seasoning or Pepper

Dressing

1/2 -3/4 cup real mayonaise
1/2 - 3/4 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon sugar

Cook bacon in a large skillet or in the oven on 350 degrees until crispy. Drain on paper towels; crumble when cool. Place half of the lettuce in a 14- to 16-cup salad or trifle bowl. Sprinkle half of the tomato pieces and half of the crumbled bacon over the lettuce. Press to compress ingredients. Spread half of the salad dressing over the top. Sprinkle with half the seasoning mix. Repeat layering with remaining lettuce, tomato (reserving some for garnish), bacon and dressing. Sprinkle top with remaining seasoning and reserved tomato. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

I made the chicken fried chicken. It was good. I ended up running out to get thin sliced chicken breasts that were on sale and saved the thighs for a soup or curry. I used whole wheat crackers and flour so my crust didn't stay on as good as I'd like, but overall still yummy. Thanks!
yummmmmmm, I love BLT salads!

About the only thing my grandson eats are tacos and BLT's, so I'm going to try this salad this weekend . If it fails for him (it won't for the rest of us) I'll put it between to peices of toast and he'll never know the difference! LOL
And...you are always welcome at my table, Thanksgiving or otherwise.
There's always room for one more.
