Aggie said that these smoothies taste just like a banana smoothie just green, and her kids love them. Well my kids love bananas too so I couldn't wait to get back home and try out this recipe. I knew the exact day that I wanted to make these. Saint Patricks Day!!! The perfect disguise. I told my kids that the green was food coloring to celebrate St Patty's Days!!! They fell for it hook, line and sinker.
They do taste just like a banana smoothie but just green. The only thing I did differently was add a bit of honey because I could only find original almond milk. But I have still been adding the honey even with the vanilla almond milk. That is the only change I made. I hope you give this recipe a try even if it is just out of curiosity. We love them and I have been making them a lot!!!!
Vanilla Almond Milk, 1 - 2 bananas, Spinach Fresh or Frozen (Fresh is best), ice and a bit of honey (optional). If you use frozen spinach and frozen bananas you can omit the ice because it will thicken up nicely with the frozen fruit and frozen spinach.
Green Monster Smoothie
1 - cup vanilla almond milk
(I prefer Silk Vanilla Pure Almond Milk)
1 - 2 ripe bananas
1 - cup fresh baby spinach or frozen spinach
1 - tablespoons honey
1 - cup of ice
(less if using frozen bananas)
Add everything to a blender and blener until smooth. I usually only use the honey if I only have original almond milk* If you use the vanilla almond milk and the smoothie isn't quite sweet enough for your taste. Just add the tablespoon of honey.

I am so excited about this! I am going to make some and let my kids have a sip on it. I hope they will like it.
I adore seeing kiddos enjoying green smoothies! Yay!
I make a different version of a green smoothie.
2 cups spinach
3/4 cup yogurt (I use vanilla)
1 kiwi
Ice for desired consistancy.
Very yummy, you would never know you were drinking spinach!
I've added bananas as well or any other fruit on hand.
I can't wait to try this with my daughter!! Thanks!
So happy you tried these Tina! Your daughter and little Gracie are too cute! :) Such a great way to get some extra veggies in!
Yum! I went to the grocery store this weekend to get the items for this smoothie. I made it this morning before coming to work, and Oh My! I never would have thought this would taste so good.
I used frozen spinach and maybe should of let it thaw before I added it to the mixture because I think I added to much. I could taste a little spinach in the mixture...but it was still very good.
Thanks for posting!
My kids are both allergic to almond so I made this with vanilla rice milk and with vanilla soy milk and they were a huge hit!! Even my boy who is scared of all things green thought it was wonderful to drink green slime monster juice...lol...go figure, spinach and broccoli are gross but green slimy monster juice is okay!! oh to be young again! Thanks for this recipe!!
adding 1/4 - 1/2 cup of blueberries turns these into pretty purple monsters. might be easier to get the kids to try them if you're having problems.
What a cool idea for St. Patricks day! And healthy too. Maybe I need to plan on more spinach in this spring's garden. . .
i make something VERY close to these...i just add frozen mangoes and peaches. absolutely delicious :)
