Shortcut Cinnamon Rolls
{Made With Truvia Baking Blend}

During the holiday season it's almost impossible to avoid sugar, especially around Christmas. I love giving baked goods as teacher and neighbor gifts, so December is always a big month for baking. The amount of flour, sugar, chocolate and sprinkles is almost too much to take in.

Our favorite treat on Christmas morning is always homemade cinnamon rolls. Christmas Eve is pretty busy, so that doesn’t leave too much time for additional cooking.  That's where this Shortcut Cinnamon Roll recipe comes in.

 My family can still have homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, just without all the fuss.  Don't get me wrong I love cinnamon rolls made from scratch, but sometimes I just don't have the time to pull it all together.

These shortcut cinnamon rolls taste just like scratch cinnamon rolls. The secret is to use store bought frozen bread dough in place of homemade. By using store bought dough it cuts the prep time in half.

To make cinnamon rolls you need a yummy brown sugar and cinnamon filling. You can use regular brown sugar and cinnamon, but if you're watching your sugar intake I have a wonderful substitute. Today I want to show you how you can make brown sugar with less calories by using Truvia Baking Blend.

Brown Sugar Made With Truvia Baking Blend

 When using Truvia Baking Blend in recipes simply use half as much Truvia Baking Blend when substituting for regular sugar. Not all baked goods call for regular sugar. Did you know that you can easily make brown sugar using the Truvia Baking Blend?

For each 1 cup of Truvia baking blend add 1 tablespoon of molasses and mix. My recipe called for 1 cup of brown sugar, so I substituted with 1/2 cup Truvia Baking Blend and 3 teaspoons of molasses.

Using a whisk combine the Truvia baking blend and the molasses until nice and fluffy. You can see the difference in the photo above at how much the sugar fluffed up. Just adjust the amount of molasses depending on if you want light or dark brown sugar.

Use the Truvia Brown Sugar Mixture in place of any recipe calling for regular brown sugar.
I love this shortcut recipe and have been using it for quite sometime. It's good to know that I can recreate the same recipe and decrease my sugar intake by using Truvia Baking Blend. I did top the cinnamon rolls with a bit of vanilla glaze, but only a little.

Shortcut Cinnamon Rolls - Made With Truvia Baking Blend
{mommyskitchen.net}

1 - loaf Rhodes frozen bread dough, thawed
1/4 - cup butter or low calorie butter substitute (4 tablespoons)
1/2 - cup Truvia Baking Blend
1 1/2 - teaspoons molasses
2 - teaspoon ground cinnamon

Vanilla Icing:
1 - cup powdered sugar
1 - 2 tablespoons low fat or skim milk
1/2 - teaspoon vanilla extract

Thaw one loaf of frozen bread dough in the refrigerator or on the counter. Roll out dough into a rectangle (about 9 x 18 in). Spread softened butter on the rolled dough.

In a small bowl whisk together 1/2 cup of Truvia Baking Blend with 3 teaspoons of molasses (I found it easier to use my fingers to mix the sugar and molasses together).

Combine until the mixture is nice and fluffy and it takes on the consistency of brown sugar. Add the cinnamon to the brown sugar mixture and combine.

Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture over the dough. Roll the dough up into a log.

Using a sharp knife slice into 2-inch thick rolls. Place into 9x13 inch pan that has been sprayed with baking spray.

Cover with a warm damp towel or plastic wrap that has been sprayed with baking spray. Allow to rise for about 2 hours in a warm area. When the rolls have doubled in size, bake them at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes until they begin to brown.

Remove from the oven and drizzle glaze on top. To make the glaze combine powdered sugar with milk and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.

If too thin or too thick, add more powdered sugar or milk, until desired consistency is reached. Drizzle over cinnamon rolls and serve.

Cook's Note: If using regular brown sugar omit the Truvia and Molasses and substitute with 1 cup regular brown sugar.

This sounds really good. Unfortunately I can't have truvia. But I am going to try it with sugar and molasses.

Michelle you can also just use plain brown sugar. By using Truvia it is just a lightened up version of original cinnamon rolls.

I've never heard of or tried Truvia--I'm pretty new to this world of eating (just started Paleo a month ago), so I'm excited to hear that I don't have to give up stuff like cinnamon rolls for good! Looks great!

The recipe says 1 1/2 teaspoons molasses but the directions say 3 teaspoons. Could you please clarify the amount for me. Thanks and I love your website.
