Yummy Apple Fritters

Make delicious homemade apple fritters with this simple recipe. Dust with powdered or dunk in a simple vanilla glaze.
I know I've said this many of times, but fall really is my favorite time of year,  I don't know what's wrong with me, but lately I've been on such a baking kick. If I have fresh pumpkin or apples in the house then something needs to be baked, or in this case fried.

The other night after dinner I was craving something sweet, but I wasn't sire what I wanted. I didn't want anything too complicated or filling, just a little something sweet. I had a few apples in the fruit bowl that need to used, so Apple Fritters was the first thing that came to mind.

Apple Fritters are one of my favorite treats to toss together and they pretty much please everyone big or small. Have you ever had a homemade apple fritter? Oh my is all I can say!!!! If you haven't then you're really in for treat.

Who doesn't love fluffy little apple cake bites rolled into powdered sugar and served warm? If powdered sugar is not for you than you can add a glaze like traditional apple fritters (see cooks note below).

If you are looking for a quick fall treat Apple Fritters is your answer. This recipe can be prepared, fried and served in under 30 minutes. Now what are you waiting for? Get to frying up some apple fritters.

To start in a large bowl, mix all purpose flour, baking powder, both sugars and cinnamon. Add the milk, egg, melted butter and stir to combine. Set mixture aside. Peel and dice the apples and add to batter. Stir the batter just until the apples are moistened; set aside. Heat the oil into a skillet that's at least 1 1/2 inch deep.

When the oil is hot drop by cupfuls (about 1/4 cup) for each fritter. Cook until browned about 2 minutes then flip. Cook until both sides are nice and brown. When done transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel. Dust with confectioner’s sugar.

These little guys are best served warm.

Apple Fritters

Ingredients:
1 1/4 - cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 - cup granulated sugar
1/4 - cup light brown sugar
1 - teaspoon cinnamon
1/3 - 1/2 cup milk
1 - large egg
3 - tablespoons melted butter
1 1/2 cups chopped apples (I prefer golden delicious)

Directions:
In a large bowl, mix all purpose flour, baking powder, both sugars and cinnamon.

Add the milk, egg, melted butter and stir to combine. Set mixture aside.

Peel and dice the apples and add to batter. Stir the batter just until the apples are moistened; set mixture aside.

Heat the oil into a skillet that's at least 1 1/2 inch deep.

When the oil is hot drop by cupfuls (about 1/4 cup) for each fritter. A regular ice cream scoop can be used which makes it easier to drop the batter into the oil.

Cook until browned about 2 minutes then flip. Cook until both sides are nice and brown.

When done transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel. Dust with confectioner’s sugar and serve warm.

Servings: 4

Cook's Note
To make a simple glaze, combine 2 cups powdered sugar, a splash of vanilla and 2 -2 1/2 tablespoons milk. Stir using a wire whisk until you have a smooth glaze. Dip the fritters into the glaze covering the whole fritter. Allow the fritters to set before serving.

can you use can Apple filling?

No it would make the dough to watery and mushy. You would specifically need to search for a recipe for apple fritters that uses apple filling to get all the ingredients and correct measurements.
