Super Easy Baked Spaghetti O Casserole

I actually feel kind of silly posting this recipe, but my kids love this casserole. Plus a reader had asked about this dish when I previously had it posted on my February Menu. About 14 years ago when my husband and I first started going out and dating. We were in town to visit his family and stopped by his brothers house.

He was making a quick lunch, spaghetti O's with ground beef. My husband said when they were boys their grandmother use to make spaghetti o's prepared that way all the time. I thought the dish need a little tweaking for my own taste, so I turned it into a Baked Spaghetti O Casserole instead.

When I browned the ground beef I added some chopped onion and seasoning (Paula's house seasoning. Emerils essence or a little garlic powder and pepper) really what ever you want or have on hand. I thought it needed cheese, I mean isn't everything better with cheese on top???? If I want my kids to eat certain dishes just add some melted cheese and they will love it.

So here is my dh's grandmothers transformed Spaghetti O dish just updated into casserole Casserole. DD loves to have this with Garlic Texas Toast on the side add some fruit and a veggie and your done. I know this is kind a silly super easy casserole but it really is kid friendly. Sometimes its the simple things that are really the best. This recipe is budget friendly and a pretty cheap meal to make.

To start brown the ground beef and add to a 9x13 in casserole dish. Season with salt and pepper to taste. And sprinkle on some Parmesan or Romano cheese how ever much you want.

add spaghetti o's on top to cover the meat.

Top with mozzarella cheese.

Spaghetti O' s Casserole

3 cans regular spaghetti o's (or 1 large can + 1 small)
1 - lb ground beef
1/4 cup onion, chopped
Paula Deens house seasoning, Emeriles essence or just salt/pepper (to your taste)
2 ups mozzarella cheese
1/4 up Parmesan or Romano cheese

Cook ground beef with onion until browned. drain off grease and add seasoning. Add the ground beef to the bottom a 9x13 size casserole dish. Add Parmesan cheese on top of the meat. Then add all three cans of spaghetti o's and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake uncovered at 350 for about 30 minutes until casserole is nice and bubbly. Serve with french bread, Texas garlic toast and a salad.

That is so clever! I wouldn't have ever thought of turning spaghetti-o's into a yummy looking main dish. I'm going to have to make this. My husband and son LOVE spaghetti-o's. I love your blog and just wanted to let you know that even though I am sure you have received a million awards I left you one on my blog.
Easy! I used to love SO's!! Haven't had them in YEARS.

This is some pretty major comfort food!! I'm (secretly) a fan of Spaghetti O's. My kiddo doesn't like them though. And my husband might shoot me if I tried to give them to him. Maybe if I sneak them into this casserole everyone will like them!

Heidi, that is what i said the first time I made this. Sometimes it is the simple things that really makes go hummmmm. LOL

Steph you made me laugh I had to go back and add dating to the paragraph LOL.

Lori I think a lot of us have a secret liking for spaghetti o's. I can eat them plain just warmed up, but this is so much better. I used to eat the heck out of cheese ravioli o's.
Me and my family have this all the time! Except we don't use the Spaghetti O's, we use just regular Campbell's canned spaghetti. Sometimes we will use ground deer meat instead of hamburger. Definitely my type of comfort food, goes good with buttermilk biscuits and sweet tea.

I haven't eaten Spaghetti O's since college (in the 90s) - but I remember grossing out my friends by eating them cold out of the can heheh. To me they tasted great hot or cold.

This looks really good! I am going to add Spaghetti O's to my grocery list this week :)

I was not sure that I would like the use of spaghetti-o's in a main dish but I was quite pleased with the result. I didn't have Emeril's essence but went to food tv web site and downloaded the recipe. This was so easy my husband could prepare it! Great taste, I give it five stars,

I love cooking; however, being a sophomore in college trying to juggle friends, keeping in touch with my family and school (I'm a pre-med Neuroscience and English major) doesn't leave much time for cooking. I love your recipes; they're simple and don't require a lot of ingredients. I made this casserole today because I already had the ingredient at hand. It was delicious; My roommates and I loved it :)

Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi Sarah, I am so glad you liked the casserole. It makes a lot as well so I am sure it was perfect for you and your friends. Quick meals like that are perfect for someone like you with a rushed schedule. So great that you dropped me a comment to let me know. Thanks bunches.

Many, Many years ago, I used this recipe, but mine called to add two cans of ranch style beans, drained topped with shredded cheddar cheese. My kids loved this. I'm thinking this was popular back in the 70's! Oh my that ages me!!

ahhhh love the power of the Internet! I was actually gonna develop my own Spaghetti O's casserole recipe; where these crazy thoughts come from I don't know. I haven't even, had Spaghetti O's since I was a teenager but was thinking it could be a good base for a retro 60's or maybe 70's comfort food. Well I guess you already thunk of it : )
Makes me smile that there are like minds!
Thanks,

This is so yummy...! I make a lasagne version. I just layer it with velvita cheese slices and top it with a creamy ranch and sour cream topping. If I don't have ground beef I substitite it with hot dogs. The husband and the boys just love it...!

I run a soup kitchen and have received a large amount of spaghetto o's but folks also receive them at their food bank. Now I can use them in a new and tasty way and share the receipe with those who eat with us. Thank you!

My mom makes this with mixed veggies and sometimes a table spoon of bbq sauce.

My Mom made this dish, canned spaghetti mixed with hamburg as a skillet dish when I was a small child in the 50's, so this has been around for a long time. I made this as the first meal for my husband, but added sautéed peppers and onions to make it "fancier". LOL I am 65 and I still make it and so do my kids. Quick, easy, cheap and delish.

I created a SW enchilada version, I take flour tortillas fill them with canned tuna, crushed Fritos (for texture), monteray jack cheese then roll them up, place in a casserole pan cover with 3 cans of spaghetios. I garnish with cottage cheese and fresh chopped onions. I make when my oldest visits from college, Dad and the boys fight over the last bite...!

My mom gave me a few cans of Star Wars Spaghetti O's when she was cleaning out her garage (she likes to help the homeless out by giving pop top cans of food). Well, with the Covid virus, she can't do that anymore and she gave them to me. When I browned my ground beef, I added some Italian spice, onion powder, garlic powder, salt & pepper. This time I forgot the onion. When I did the layering, before the final cheese layer, I added garlic powder & Italian spice. Wow, this turned out awesome! Thank you for the idea. I have a couple of cans left and I will make it, this time with the onions.

This is now become my signature recipe and have been bringing it to our annual family picnics. Toby, our son, has even started a spaghetti'Os pie eating contest, the proud and undefeated winner since 2015! Thanks for this wonderful recipe idea, I make so many versions and am even experimenting with a desert version!
