I almost always get their viva la french toast or their split decision, both consisting of french toast. I was poking around at different blogs, which is usually what I do when I am getting ready to start my menu for the month. Well I came across a recipe for IHop French Toast at The Sister's Cafe, I thought it would be a perfect dinner meal with bacon and scrambled eggs.
I usually make my french toast using Texas Toast, but this recipe uses traditional thick cut French bread. It also had flour added to the batter so I really wanted to try this recipe out. I did not get a chance to make the coconut syrup this time, but I am definitely making it the next time. I know there will be a next time because the french toast was so good. We pretty much cleaned it up, so no leftovers that particular night. If you are like us and like breakfast for dinner sometimes, I think this would be a great recipe to try.
this is about right. I have a total of 12 slices so I doubled the batter recipe.
First beat eggs, then add remaining ingredients
and beat with electric mixer.
Dip both sides of bread and place in hot buttered pan.
Flip over when browned.
Serve with regular syrup or Coconut Syrup. (recipe below). I love to have mine with butter and powdered sugar just like at IHop.
2 - eggs, beaten
1/2 - cup milk
1/8- teaspoon salt
1 - teaspoon vanilla
3 - tablespoons flour
6 - slices of thick sliced French bread
First beat eggs, then add remaining ingredients with electric mixer. Dip both sides of bread and place in hot buttered pan. Flip over when browned. Serve with Coconut Syrup.
I am also including The Sisters Cafe's favorite Coconut Syrup recipe below. This is their all time favorite syrup, and they ALWAYS serve it with hot breakfasts, whether it be waffles, pancakes, crepes or french toast. It’s unbeatable! I will be giving this a try next time.
Coconut Syrup
7-8 tablespoons butter
¾ - cup buttermilk
1 - cup sugar
½ - teaspoon baking soda
1 - teaspoon coconut extract
Place butter, buttermilk and sugar in a pot. Then turn stove on medium and stir until butter melts and sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil and boil one minute. Remove from heat and add soda and flavoring. It will bubble up; just continue to stir and give it a few minutes for the 'fizz' to reduce before serving.
Note: If using a whole loaf of French Bread, double the batter recipe.
