IHop French Toast {Breakfast for Dinner}

One of our favorite meals in our house is Breakfast for Dinner!!! I try and make a breakfast dish at least twice a month since the kids love it so much. It is the one meal that I know they wont put up a fight about. We love going to IHop for a special treat. I think they have the best tasting coffee, so I look forward to going when we do get the chance to go.

I almost always get their viva la french toast or their split decision, both consisting of french toast. I was poking around at different blogs, which is usually what I do when I am getting ready to start my menu for the month. Well I came across a recipe for IHop French Toast at The Sister's Cafe, I thought it would be a perfect dinner meal with bacon and scrambled eggs.

I usually make my french toast using Texas Toast, but this recipe uses traditional thick cut French bread. It also had flour added to the batter so I really wanted to try this recipe out. I did not get a chance to make the coconut syrup this time, but I am definitely making it the next time. I know there will be a next time because the french toast was so good. We pretty much cleaned it up, so no leftovers that particular night. If you are like us and like breakfast for dinner sometimes, I think this would be a great recipe to try.

Cut your slices kind of thick.

this is about right. I have a total of 12 slices so I doubled the batter recipe.

First beat eggs, then add remaining ingredients

and beat with electric mixer.

Dip both sides of bread and place in hot buttered pan.

Flip over when browned.

Serve with regular syrup or Coconut Syrup. (recipe below). I love to have mine with butter and powdered sugar just like at IHop.

IHOPs French Toast

2 - eggs, beaten
1/2 - cup milk
1/8- teaspoon salt
1 - teaspoon vanilla
3 - tablespoons flour
6 - slices of thick sliced French bread

First beat eggs, then add remaining ingredients with electric mixer. Dip both sides of bread and place in hot buttered pan. Flip over when browned. Serve with Coconut Syrup.

I am also including The Sisters Cafe's favorite Coconut Syrup recipe below. This is their all time favorite syrup, and they ALWAYS serve it with hot breakfasts, whether it be waffles, pancakes, crepes or french toast. It’s unbeatable! I will be giving this a try next time.

Coconut Syrup

7-8 tablespoons butter
¾ - cup buttermilk
1 - cup sugar
½ - teaspoon baking soda
1 - teaspoon coconut extract

Place butter, buttermilk and sugar in a pot. Then turn stove on medium and stir until butter melts and sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil and boil one minute. Remove from heat and add soda and flavoring. It will bubble up; just continue to stir and give it a few minutes for the 'fizz' to reduce before serving.

Note: If using a whole loaf of French Bread, double the batter recipe.

An Evening with Paula Deen {Score for Mackenzie}

I am finally getting a chance to post the pictures from when me and dd got to see Paula Deen. I have to say this event was very well organized. It really was as the title stated "A Conversation with Paula Deen". It was so hard to sit and wait for her to arrive. When the elevator doors opened and we saw her for the first time, the room filled with screams and cheers!!!!! I told my dd theres our girl. Channel 8's Gary Cogill lead Paula to her seat.

I got a really great shot of her coming towards us!! Oh my, the front row was to die for. I was giddy as a school girl seeing her for the first time, I just couldn't believe it. As soon as she got to her seat Paula was so bubbly and giggly, cutting jokes like the Paula we all know so well. She just looked beautiful. She said "Dallas and Texas girls, we're like sisters in the way we think and do things. We all love our cast-iron skillets and our hair close to Jesus." LMBO the things she says just makes me laugh.

Paula was very gracious to everyone I only wish it would of been longer. After the show was over me an dd were taking pictures of her body guard and Michael leading her to her car as she was waving goodbye. A lady came over and said she needed to talk to me.... She said I looked like a die hard fan ~blushing~ I said yes ma'am she asked me why I bowed when Paula was walking toward us when she first arrived in the room, goodness I didn't even remember I did that. I said because she is Miss Paula Deen and I Just adore her. Well look what was in Dallas Mornings News Saturday Edition. I couldn't believe it

Southern charmer and force of nature Paula Deen pays Dallas a visit.
At Legacy Books, her entrance (accompanied by husband Michael Groover) sent the previously quiet crowd into rock-star-sighting whoops, whistles and a standing ovation. Tina Butler of Mesquite bowed, as if meeting the queen, from her front-row spot. "She's made cooking cool," Butler explained later. "I just adore her."

Captain Micheal came along what a nice surprise.

She started out cutting up just like Paula always does.

Paula getting her microphone attached. My dd waved to her and she looked right at her and smiled.

Still greeting everyone.

Getting comfortable and kicking off the shoes to show us her new pedicure.

Michael saying a few words, He has the coolest voice.

It was so wonderful just listening to her stories.

Time sure flew by it was time for her to go :(

hand shaking time and saying goodbye, my dd went up to say goodbye wait for it......

SCORE for Mackenzie!! oh how I wish mommy was in her shoes. My dd said Paula smells so nice. LOL. I got to say thank you for coming and shake her hand. I also got to give Captain Micheal a big bear hug. It was such a awesome night.

This is something Mackenzie and I will remember forever

We both got a autographed copy of her new cookbook.

Bama Steak and Cheese Sandwiches

Tonight for dinner we made these super easy Bama Steak & Cheese Sandwiches. They turned out Awesomely Good. (awesomely probably not being a word LOL), but that's the only way I can describe them. My husband really liked them, so much that he is taking the leftovers to work tomorrow for lunch. Darn now there's no leftover for me. I really loved the flavor of the Dale's Sauce which was only intensified with the flavor from the peppers and the onions I was just in heaven with all those veggies!!! My DH on the other hand dislikes both the onions and the peppers, he loves the flavor but not the actual pepper and onion. He did tell me if I cut them smaller he would of ate them. I just cant win with the whole pepper onion thing I cut them in bigger chunks so he can pick them out and I still cant win UGH!!!!

That's OK because I have eaten about all of them all by myself. ~grins~ I originally got this recipe from Christy at Southern Plate. These Bama Steak & Cheese Sandwiches have been on my To Cook List since November and now I finally got around to making them. I wanted a easy dinner tonight because tomorrow night is mine and dds big night....... We get to go and see Paula Deen for her New Cookbook Promotion. I am so syked and excited I cant think of anything else, much less dinner. So it was a easy night tonight and No Cookin for this mommy tomorrow. The rest of the group is on their own for dinner!!!!! and I ain't feeling a bit bad for them. My stomach feels like it is tied in a billon knots, I cant believe i am going to be in the same room as Paula Deen + The first one in the door to pick our seats IKES!!!

These are the ingredients you will need:
1 - lb Sliced Deli Roast Beef, Cheese of your choice (Shredded), 1 Onion, 1 Green Bell Pepper, Dales Sauce, 1/2 stick Butter or Margarine and Hogies Buns

Chop up your roast beef .

Chop up the onions and peppers as well. I did bigger chunks so my picky people can pick the out.

Melt 1/2 stick butter or margarine in skillet. Add your onions to the skillet. Add a tablespoon or so of your sauce, depending on your taste.

Cook this over medium heat until your onions are tender, stirring often

Add chopped roast beef and continue cooking and stirring just until your roast beef is warmed. If you like, add another two tablespoons of your sauce add to your liking.

I spead a little bit of butter on the hoagies and toasted them on a griddle first. YUMMY.

Once that has been stirred in and your roast beef is good and warm, turn off stove eye and sprinkle cheese all over the top and let sit until melted. Spoon onto Sandwich rolls or Hoagies. If you like you can add more cheese ~grins~

Bama Steak And Cheese Sandwiches

1 lb Deli Roast Beef
1-2 Cups Mozzarella, Provolone or Swiss Cheese
1/2 stick margarine or butter
1 onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped (optional)
3-4 Tablespoons Dale’s Sauce (Super Walmart)
(can use Moore’s Marinade, Soy Sauce, Worcestershire sauce, etc if you cannot find Dales)
Soft Deli Rolls (Sandwich or Hoagie Rolls)

Chop up roast beef. In large skillet, melt 1/2 stick margarine or butter. Add 1-2 tablespoons sauce, according to taste. Add onions and peppers and saute until tender. Add roast beef and additional sauce (according to taste) and continue cooking over medium heat until just warmed. Take off heat and sprinkle cheese over top. Let sit until melted and then spoon onto rolls.

Freezer Crescent Rolls & Interview

First off I want to thank Tiffany over at Eat at Home. She did a interview with five of her favorite Food Bloggers. I am so touched that I was chosen as one of her favorite fives!!! The interview was about getting dinner on the table for our families and what a tough job it can be. She wanted to know how we accomplish the task and what meals we chose. Head over to Eat at Home and check out our answers. Thanks Tiffany I had fun, now on to the rolls.

To me there is nothing better than fresh hot homemade bread or rolls. This recipe for Freezer Crescent Rolls is such a awesome recipe. The rolls turned out so soft and buttery tasting. I got this recipe from Stephanie over at Fun Food’s on a Budget who, got this recipe from a Taste of Home 2008 Annual Recipe Book. The picture of Stephanie's rolls made me practically drool all over my keyboard. I knew I had to make them. I liked this recipe for a variety of reasons. One because they turned out so perfect. Two they utilize dry powdered milk and mashed potato flakes, I love potato rolls. Plus I had a lot of powdered milk to use that I set aside for cooking and baking purposes and this recipe called for dry powdered milk. I try and use the powdered milk instead of regular milk for cooking and baking.

And the third and final reason is because you can flash freeze these rolls for a later date. So when you want some fresh rolls, just thaw the rolls in the refrigerator overnight. The next day let them rise and bake. I love having fresh baked rolls on had to grab in a flash. So all in all this is a quick and yummy roll recipe to make. As I was preparing these rolls to flash freeze for storage it got me thinking that maybe i could roll some of the dough out spread some butter and add cinnamon and sugar to make cinnamon rolls. Cut into rolls and then flash freeze them to use for another day. Then I would have a quick batch of breakfast rolls on hand for drop in guests. I am going to give it a try next time i make this recipe. This time I baked up half of the crescents and froze the other half. Homemade bread and rolls are my weakness,
what type of food is your weakness?

Handy Helper Carson is helping mommy out today. He is such a ham when it comes to the camera!!!

These are the ingredients you will need:
All purpose flour, sugar, yeast, powdered milk, instant potato flakes, salt, eggs, water and butter.

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the butter, milk powder, sugar, potato flakes, eggs, salt, and 3 cups flour.

Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a firm dough

just like this. Turn onto a heavily floured surface; knead 8-10 times.

Then after kneading divide the dough in half.

Roll each portion into a 12-inch circle; cut each circle into 16 wedges (pizza cutter works great for this).

Roll up wedges from the wide end and place point side down 2 inches apart on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Curve ends to form crescent shape. At this point I wanted to bake one tray and freeze the other. To freeze rolls, cover and freeze. When firm, transfer to a large resealable plastic freezer bag. Date and freeze for up to 4 weeks. See the note at the end of this recipe on how to use prepare frozen rolls for use.

Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled. Bake at 350 for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve warm. Makes 32 rolls.

Freezer Crescent Rolls

3 tsp. active dry yeast
2 cups warm water (110 to 115 degrees)
1/2 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup mashed potato flakes
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp salt
6 to 6 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the butter, milk powder, sugar, potato flakes, eggs, salt, and 3 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a firm dough (for this I used my mom's heavy duty Kitchen aid mixer. I love that mixer).Turn onto a heavily floured surface; knead 8-10 times. Divide dough in half. Roll each portion into a 12-inch circle; cut each circle into 16 wedges (pizza cutter works great for this). Roll up wedges from the wide end and place point side down 2 inches apart on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Curve ends to form crescent shape.

To use Frozen Freezer Rolls:

Arrange frozen rolls 2 inches apart on baking sheets coated with nonstick cooking spray. Cover and thaw in refrigerator overnight.Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled. Bake at 350 for 15-17 minutes or until golden brown.

Orange Coffee Cake & I am going to see My Girl Woot Woot!!!

I made Paula Deens Orange Coffee Cake for Easter Morning. It was really good, but no surprise there It's a Paula Deen Recipe. My husband loves the Pillsbury orange rolls so he really liked this coffee cake. My oldest son said it was good but the little guys dislike nuts so they passed on tasting it. This was so easy to prepare and utilizes canned flaky grands biscuits. I had seen the Paula Deen Episode a couple days before on making breakfast and brunch ideas and this coffee cake was so simple I had to make it. You lay the biscuits out into a flower shape so it really turns out so pretty. I made Overnight Crock Pot Oatmeal to serve along with the coffee cake. A few of my readers have prepared the overnight oatmeal recipe. Well, I have been playing around with the cooking method a bit because it just wasn't up to my satisfaction. So, I wanted to let everyone know that I made some revisions to the recipe. If you have made or plan on making the overnight oatmeal please click on the link and read the revisions, I am so much happier preparing the oatmeal with the water bath method. It really takes care of the problem of the oatmeal getting brown and hard around the edges.

OK now everyone now bear with me a bit. I have some exciting news for me and my dd. We are going to an event Thursday April 23rd and both of us are just beside ourselves with excitement. I have to tell you about it. My Girl........................ Paula Deen is coming to Plano, Texas to promote her New Cookbook. ~~Happy Dance~~ Well, Mackenzie and I got TICKETS!!! IKE'S........ I cant believe it! better yet I cant believe she is coming to Texas. I saw the listings on her site for all the book signings and scrolled down and saw that she was coming to our part of town, I said GET OUT OF HERE!!! No Way! I called the book store and jumped on it, they didn't even know what i was talking about LOL I was so excited. The marketing manager told me he would keep my email and let me know when the tickets would go on sale. He said I was the first caller about the event to funny. Well I got a email saying that that me and my dd were confirmed for two of the 250 people for "A Conversations with Paula Deen". The tickets went on sale the day her cookbook came out (4/7) I purchased the tickets and DH picked them up the next day. The lady at the store said they will be letting ticket holders in the door to pick their seats 1 hour before the event starts in the order of your ticket number. Your ticket # is designated by your ticket request. DH Called me on the way home from picking up the tickets and asked me if i wanted to know what ticket # me and dd were? I said yes I hope we are in the first 50. He said Girl you and Mackenzie are ticket #1 and #2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am beside myself with excitement we are the first two in the door to pick our seats. Kenzie and I are running for the first row front and center. I am bringing my camera I cant wait.... I just had to tell you guys. We each got a autographed copy of the new "Deen Family Cookbook" along with our tickets.

Hopefully you have a prettier cake pan that I do. I tried fitting this into a pie plate, but all the biscuits did not fit. :(

In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, pecans, and zest; set aside

Brush melted butter over the tops of the biscuits.

sprinkle sugar and nut mixture over biscuits. for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
