Bobby's Favorite Goulash, is now our Favorite Goulash

I have been looking for a good Goulash recipe for sometime now. I have tried many recipes and still have not found the perfect one. Awhile back I was watching Paula's Home Cooking, it was the Happy Birthday episode with her her son Bobby. Which just happens to be my favorite Deen boy. Paula was making all the foods Bobby loves, Goulash!! being one of them. It looked so yummy that I had to try it the next time I wanted to make goulash. Well the next time just happened to be the other night. I followed the recipe to the "T" and threw everything in my new Paula Deen cookware of course LOL.

I have to say this was the best Goulash I have ever tasted. It was so good we cleaned the whole pot out. The goulash was the prefect consistency not to thick and not to thin, just right. I did add about a cup of frozen corn, but that's the only change I made. If you want a great goulash recipe you gotta try Paula's. I wasn't to sure on adding the soy sauce, but I did and it really wasn't overpowering at all. All the spices came together wonderfully. I cant wait to try Bobby’s Caramel Cake, which she also baked on the Happy Birthday episode.

*This recipe makes a quite a bit. If you have a smaller family I suggest cutting this recipe in half.

These are the ingredients you will need:
water, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, seasoning salt, soy sauce, house seasoning, bay leaves, Italian seasoning, ground beef, onion, garlic and elbow macaroni. Paula's house seasoning recipe is at the end of this post.

In a Dutch oven or large pot, saute the ground beef over medium-high heat until no pink remains. Break up the meat while sauteing. Spoon off any grease. Add the onions and garlic to the pot and saute until they are tender, about 5 minutes.

Add 3 cups water, along with the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, soy sauce, House Seasoning, and seasoned salt.

Stir well. Place a lid on the pot and allow this to cook for 15 to 20 minutes.

Add the elbow macaroni, stir well,

return the lid to the pot, and simmer for about 20 minutes.

Stir again and then

turn off the heat, remove the bay leaves, and allow the mixture to sit about 15 minutes more before serving.

Serve with garlic bread and a salad.

Bobby’s Favorite Goulash

1/2 tablespoon Paula Deen’s House Seasoning
3 tablespoon soy sauce
3 bay leaves
2 tablespoon Italian seasoning
2 (15-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
3 cups water
3 cloves garlic, chopped
2 large onion, chopped
2 lb lean ground beef
1/2 tablespoon Paula Deen’s Seasoned Salt
2 cup elbow macaroni, uncooked
1 - cup frozen mixed veggies or frozen corn
(If using canned, drain first)

In a Dutch oven or large pot, saute the ground beef over medium-high heat until no pink remains. Break up the meat while sauteing. Spoon off any grease. Add the onions and garlic to the pot and saute until they are tender, about 5 minutes. Add 3 cups water, along with the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, soy sauce, House Seasoning, and seasoned salt. Stir well. If adding mixed veggies or corn add them now. Place a lid on the pot and allow this to cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Add the elbow macaroni, stir well, return the lid to the pot, and simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes. Turn off the heat, remove the bay leaves, and allow the mixture to sit about 15 minutes more before serving. Serve with garlic bread and a salad.

Paula's House Seasoning:

1 cup salt
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder

Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight
container for up to 6 months.

YUM! I think I like anything that Paula Dean makes, especially when it's for one of her boys. Great job.

I have to say I forgot about this meal. My mom always made it growing up and I LOVED it. My mom made it without meat though, but I am sure this is amazing. I am going to make it soon and that Amish bread of yours but I cant find bread flour here, can I just use AP?

Fantastic recipe! It is by far the best goulash I have EVER had. My whole family loved it & we had generous leftovers.

Kristensaid...

just made the goulash. It was REALLY salty, my family couldn't eat it. I followed the recipe exactly, but think next time I will cut down the salt portions by 1/2.

Mommy's Kitchensaid...

You can probably cut back on the seasoning sxlt measurement. Paulas house seasoning recipe has salt in it as well. Or just cut both the house seasoning and the seasoning salt in half.

Aaron, Amber, & Raelyesaid...

Very good goulash! I used 1 can Rotel instead of 2 cans tomatoes and didn't measure anything exactly but thats how I make everything. I served ours with a palmful of cheddar cheese. My husband and 14mo old loved it too!
