Due to COVID we couldn't go over to his moms or grandmas who usually make both dishes each year religiously. Anyway, I made them today and my husband said it was the best he'd ever had! Phew. Also, I whipped both dishes up in about 30 min. I cheated a little and used canned beans. I added all the ingredients in a pot on the stovetop. I did omit the salt, sugar, and water for both recipes since I was using left over honey baked ham from Christmas dinner. I also used this ham for the cabbage instead of bacon. Also, I used beef broth for both recipes rather than the chicken broth listed for the peas recipe. One last thing, I had no canned tomatoes but I did have a jar of chunky salsa so I used about a 1/4 cup of that instead. My kids and I liked the recipe too, and I've never been a big fan of black eyes peas. These recipes were easy to follow and delicious!Yasmin Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00618701598306289859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8390396285139687239.post-38415581354984240472018-02-12T16:12:12.548-06:002018-02-12T16:12:12.548-06:00Hi folks, this is Albert and I live in So. Espe...Hi Lynn, The ham is probably the best choice. Especially if you have any ham leftover from Christmas. We had turkey so i did not have ham. I bough a package at superwalmart of ham shanks it had 6 meaty ones in the package. I used three and am saving three for pinto beans. I got a lot of meat off of them. I have never used sausage just ham or smoked ham hocks. The ham gives the beans a great flavor. Hubby told me he loves them so much we need to make them more often. When i bought the northern beans today I bought more BE peas. I hope this answers your? I dont think the bacon would give enough flavor. I throw the ham shanks in at the begining for optimal flavor.Tina Butlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10515629994766421233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8390396285139687239.post-45905749835520340682010-01-02T21:46:30.813-06:002010-01-02T21:46:30.813-06:00After we tweeted about BE peas yesterday I knew I ...After we tweeted about BE peas yesterday I knew I wanted to try these.
