No I haven't I only used one 48 - 50 jar of apple sauce. It would be to thin if two jars were used. That is just my opinion. If you want to use two by all means do so.

This is the first time I've ever done apple butter. I found this recipe and just HAD to try it! I done a run yesterday and it is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! It is soooo easy to do. Everybody loved it here, as we have already opened two jars ....Guess I'm gonna have to make some more. Lol! ;) If you haven't made up your mind to make this yet, you GOT to try it!!!

I'm new to all of this canning and making homemade jams, apple butter, etc. Thank you so much for posting this easy to follow and easy to make recipe! I just finished making my first batch and it tastes wonderful!! I'm sure I'll be having to make more next week with all of the family members and friends that have been requesting it! It's so much cheaper to do it this way than it is to buy it at my local Apple Orchard! For the cost of 1 jar there I can make 8 here!

Just finishing up a batch of this apple butter. Besides waking to the smell, it tastes great. I made the cream biscuits from Smitten Kitchen's site, thought I needed homemade applebutter and found this by googling. You have a wonderful site and I've been going through your files for other good stuff.

Anonymous, I am not sure all you can do it give it a try without the applesauce I dont think it would hurt it. If anything it would make it thicker which would be better. LMK if you try it.

I have lots of apples, but no apple sauce. Can I make it straight in the crock pot without the apple sauce, or do I have to make apple sauce with them first, like some other recipes suggest.

Hi Joan, the hot mixture would be enough to seal the jars, but for saftey reasons you need to can them properly by sterilizing your jars and using the hot water bath method. It is just safer that way. My MIL just lets them seal on the counter when the mixture is hot but it is not recommended.
