Patriotic Delight and 4th of July Eats

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday!!! It's been raining off an on today in Dallas and right now it is actually pouring cats and dogs. I guess I can pretty much say I dont think we will be having our summerfest and fireworks show tonight. The kids were looking so forward to the fireworks, but I know we cant control Mother Nature.

I wanted to make a 4th of July themed post today featuring a pretty tasty dessert. If you use pie filling than I know you have heard of the Lucky Leaf Pie Filling. Well the nice folks over at Lucky Leaf sent me package that contained apple, cherry, and blueberry pie filling along with a couple of recipes.

One of the recipes was for a American Flag Cake and and the second one was for a Angel Food Patriotic Delight pictured above. I chose to make the patriotic delight with just one minor adjustment. We prefer pound cake over angel food cake so that is what I used. This dessert was really simple to prepar and looks like you spent a lot of time on it.

This reminds me of a festive trifle. If cherry isn't your thing then you could use strawberry pie filling in place of cherry. We really enjoyed this recipe and I hope you will give it a try. For more great Lucky Leaf recipes join the Lucky Leaf Facebook page or you can visit the Lucky Leaf Website. Don't forget to join their recipe club while your there.

I am also posting a few recipes that I think would be perfect for your upcoming 4th of July Festivities. Maybe you are in charge of bringing a dessert, side dish or salad. I listed a few that I think would be perfect. Whatever your plans are I hope everyone has a Happy and Safe Independence Day!!!! The recipe for the Patriotic Delight is at the end of this post.

Turned out FABULOUS! I was thinking to use pound cake too. We aren't big angel food cake fans either.
