Frosted Cream Cheese Sugar Cookie Bars

Simple frosted sugar cookie bars.... no rolling or cutting required and perfect for a crowd.
Hi everyone today I'm posting a recipe for these yummy Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter, I know I did.
The kiddos had a great time hunting eggs and having their traditional Easter Scavenger Hunt.

We had a cookout with friends, so our day was filled with great food, good friends and lot's of fun. I even brought a new recipe home that I cant wait to share with all of you but, that will have to wait for another day.

I don't know about you but my favorite cookie is Sugar Cookies. I have to admit though I don't always have the time to make them. All that fuss of cutting out all the shapes and getting them frosted and decorated it can get very time consuming. Well Easter Sunday was no different, time was the one thing I really didn't have a lot of. I had 4 other dishes to get prepared to take over to a friends house.

But the kids still wanted Frosted Sugar Cookies. Well I'm not one to disappoint! So instead of making cookies we simplified the whole project and made sugar cookie bars instead.
I have to say this really is so much easier than traditional frosted sugar cookies. This sugar cookie recipe is also a bit different, because cream cheese is added to the cookie dough as well as in the frosting.

So double the cream cheesy goodness. I was really surprised on how fast this recipe came together. I prepared and baked the bars the night before Easter. Then on Easter day I just had to prepare the frosting and decorate the bars. Just like that we had sugar cookies in a snap. I also frosted the sugar cookie bars in two festive Easter colors. If you love sugar cookies you need to try this recipes. I'm also sharing a few photos from our Easter fun. I hope you enjoy the recipe.

Here are a few photos from the Kiddos doing their Easter Scavenger Hunt.

They were so excited to find Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakual as their Scavenger Hunt Prize.

Festive Sugar Cookie Bars. When I was done frosting the sugar cookie bars. I used a chop stick and made lines in the frosting to score the bars for easy cutting.

I'm with Tiffanee -- I never make sugar cookies (even though I love them) because they are so time consuming! Thanks for this great recipe.

I just made there today, and I don't have my 13x9 pan, my MIL has it right now, and so I used my 9x12 didn't think it would make that big of a difference. Ummm ya it is the size of a cake and spongy too although tastes just like a cookie. Haven't frosted yet was sctually thinking doing a strawberry short"cookie" type dessert. I had to bake it too for 45 mins. Next time I will use the correct size pan :)!! Thanks for sharing def a keeper!!

Just found your blog a few days ago and I LOVE it!!! We are getting hit with the big snowstorm tonight so my kids and I decided to make the chocolate covered peanut butter hearts (YUM) and these cream cheese sugar cookie bars. The only problem is I didn't see that the frosting has cream cheese in it also and I don't have any more. Since I am likely to be snowed in for a couple days I was wondering what you recommend I frost these with? Thanks for any advice you can give me!!!

Hi the amount for the cream cheese is listed in the frosting ingredients. (4 oz) I also checked the recipe for the printable version and it is listed on there as well. I am not sure if you are not seeing the amount or asking to substitute because you do not have any? If you do not have cream cheese for the frosting I would just leave it out. You may have to increase the milk a bit.

Thanks for getting back with me!! The recipe does include the cream cheese I just didn't see it so I didn't buy it. We ended up eating them without any frosting because all the kids thought they were delicious even without it!!! Thanks for all the great recipes!!! I can't wait to try more :)

I can't wait to try making these! Do they need to be refrigerated since there's cream cheese in the frosting? --Saralyn

I will add that to the recipe. I think since it does have cream cheese in the frosting then yes it would be best to store in the refrigerator.

Cookies in the oven as we speak (or read, as the case may be). Can't wait to try them as the cookie dough was so delicious I wasn't sure the kiddos were gonna let me put any in the pan to bake...Thank you for so many great recipes!

One of my friends made these to go along with Easter dessert. They were yummy - but most people found the icing to be a bit too sweet. We decided the recipe is a keeper but we will play with the icing part of it.

Has anyone tried making these without the egg? Just curious how they would turn out.
Egg allergy in the family.
