No Peek Beef Tips {Amazingly Tender}

It's been a crazy at our house this past week. It was the first week of school, so were all kind of adjusting to everything again. Getting everyone up early!!

No more sleeping in and no one understands that. I have one starting High School one starting Kindergarten and my daughter who is in the middle starts third grade.

The hardest adjustment is getting my youngest one going he still really doesn't get the fact that he has to go to school, he still thinks its a choice LOL. Plus I started watching a 6 month old so its been a big adjustment for everyone.

It is nice to have a baby in the house again Ü. Time has been really pressed this week, but we will get it all figured out. It's only the first week right? I think all in all it went really well.

I wanted to make a something quick and simple for dinner. My No Peek Beef Tips was the perfect meal. I could just toss everything together and the oven will do the rest. This recipe really is easy and quite tasty.

The meat turns out so tender every time plus, it makes its own gravy it doesn't get any better than that. I like to serve a nice colorful vegetable and fresh bread or rolls along side.

Clean up is a snap since it uses just one pan. I used a chuck roast but it really is versatile on your meat choice.

You can use stew meat, chuck eye or a cheaper cut. It cooks slowly at 300 degrees for 3 hours so the meat will get really tender so a cheaper cut is fine.

I hope you enjoy the beef tips as much as I do it's one of my favorite meals. This is the perfect if you have guests coming for dinner that way you don't have to spend the whole time in the kitchen preparing the meal. Lets get started. Remember the full recipe is at the bottom of this post.
 

Add cubed meat to a 9 x 13 inch pan. In a separate bowl add dry onion soup mix, Cream of mushroom soup, dry gravy mix and 1 cup water or ginger ale. The ginger ale adds a bit of a sweet flavor to the gravy. I prefer to use water. Using a whisk mix until blended.

Pour over the meat add mushrooms and stir to coat. (I did not use mushrooms my DH asked me not to) darn it mushrooms are the best part. Stir to coat all the meat. Cover with foil tightly and bake at 300 degrees for 2 1/2 - 3 Hours do not remove foil until done. 

This is where it earned it's name NO PEEK! Be very careful when removing the foil the steam is very hot and will escape fast. Let cool a bit and serve over rice or noodles.

Very Yummo!!! The meat turns out very tender and the gravy is the perfect consistency. I served mine with fresh french bread and broccoli with cheese sauce.



No Peek Beef Tips

Ingredients:
2 lb - beef tenderloin tips, stew meat, chuck roast or chuck eye, cubed
1 - 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
1 – 0.87 packet brown gravy mix
1 - 1.25 packet Lipton dry onion soup mix
1 – 4 oz can mushrooms
1 - cup water

Directions:
Add cubed meat to a 9 x 13 inch pan.

In a large bowl mix the remaining ingredients together and pour over the meat.

Add mushrooms and stir to coat. Cover with foil and bake at 300 degrees for 2 1/2 - 3 Hours.

Do not remove foil until done.

Serve over rice, mashed potatoes or egg noodles.

Servings: 6 - 8 

Cook's Note: One cup Gingerale can be used in place of water {optional}.

That is so funny that I got a comment tonight on the beef tips. We just had it for dinner a couple hours ago. I prepared mine in the oven as always. I think if you want to make it in the crock pot. Just add the meat and the rest of the ingredients and Cook on low 5-6hours or on high 3-4 hours. I did have one person tell me awhile back when the prepared it in the crockpot it was a bit watery. That is why i prepare mine in the oven, becuause the gravy is perfect everytime.

Made this the other day and it is SO yummy! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe. I googled a recipe, Chocolate Chess Pie, last year for my hun to make for the holiday season since both of our mothers are passed away & made excellent foods but no recipes to pass down. Well ever since then I come to your board first for great southern homestyle recipes esp. this one, this is a HUGE HIT at my house. Super Duper easy to make the only change I make to mine is instead of using just plain onion soup mix I use Lipton's Beefy Onion, love it w/ mushrooms but the hun & kiddo don't. :( This reminds me of how my mother used to make them for her work--sooo delish. & I must apologize for I have now became a Mommys Kitchen stalker I just love the ease, simplicity, & taste of every single recipe i've made from here so Thank You for this blog, again LOVE it! :D --Tina

I made it tonight and it was delicious! Everyone loved it. We had it with white rice, but my husband suggested a seasoned rice next time. Our family doesn't like mushrooms, so we didn't add the extra mushrooms. I put the cream of mushroom soup, gravy mix and water in a blender for about 20 seconds until the little mushroom pieces were gone. If my husband saw any he wouldn't of eaten it. Baby right? Lol. Definitely making it again! Thanks for sharing!

oh this was so delicious! i haven't had beef tips in years because i couldn't find a recipe that was flavorful. this recipe is perfect. i cooked it half in the oven for 1.5 hours and continued to finish it in a crockpot. i added about 2 tbsp of cornscratch to thicken the gravy. perfect!!!

I have never made this in the crock pot. You can scroll through the comments. I think a few have adjusted this recipe for a crock pot version. I'm not sure how the results would be for the gravy. You might have to thicken it a bit if you cook it in the crock pot. All you can do is try and see how the recipe turns out.

When I made the recipe, I mistakenly used only 1 lb of meat and therefore I was able to get two servings out of the meat (340 cal for 8oz on the lean cut I used) with lots of leftover gravy. So, my guess for the original recipe as followed, you can get anywhere from 4-8 servings.

You can totally do this in the crockpot-just leave out the water! gravy consistency is perfect! I doubled and cooked on LOW for 5 hours. It was a tad salty, so I agree to use the low sodium soup or a little less than a whole packet of onion soup mix. It was fabulous!!!

I don't know why it was so salty for you. It isn't for us. Everyones taste buds are different. The only thing I can think of is only add half of the onion soup mix and see if that works for you.

YUMMY!!!!! I came across this recipe on Pinterest and thought it sounded easy and tasty. When I told my BF I was making Beef Tips for dinner and how I was going to make them he was skeptical. He said that's not how my mother makes them, I wouldn't be suprised if they don't turn out too good. I decided to make them anyway and hope to prove him wrong :) 3 hours later diner is finished and he ate half of the Beef Tips! He said they were DELICIOUS and wants me to make them again! I made this last night and it was super easy, and delicious!!
I do not like mushrooms, so I omitted the mushrooms and substituted cream of chicken soup. I used the ginger ale, but also added about 1 cup of red wine. I served over Linguine noodles (didnt have fettucini in the house), and also served with some bisquits on the side. This will be on my regular recipe rotation for us.

I dislike mushrooms as well and I always substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery soup. I haven't tried it with this recipe yet, but I'm planning on making it tomorrow (and in the crockpot instead of the oven).

Hi! I made this today, and I did mine in the crock. I work a crazy schedule so oven was out of the question. I bought a pack of stew meat that was just over three pounds so I used a packet and a half of the gravy and soup mixes and did one can mush soup and one can water the gravy came out perfect. my crock has a keep warm setting so I cooked it on that for 8 hours and it was perfect! I am so glad I found your blog, lots to look through

I stumbled on this recipe on pintrest and I am so glad I did. I have been looking for something different because my girls get burned out so fast on my favorite things to cook. This was the ticket, I am a busy working mom so I always try to find stuff I can throw in my trusty crock and go, I didn't have any problems. I had more than two pounds of meat so I used a packet and half of each of the gravy and soup mixes and then 1 can soup to one can water the gravy was not watery which was a concern since crock cooking tends to make extra moisture. my pot has a keep warm setting so I cooked it on that for 8 hours and it was PERFECT! So happy I stumbled on to your blog

I found this recipe on Pinterest and made it last night. It comes together quickly, dirties just one dish, and everyone LOVED it! I used closer to 2 1/2 lbs of beef and there was still plenty of gravy. We had it with homemade mashed potatoes. Will definitely make again and double it.

i made this tonight.i used an angus something roast cut up.added dry onion soup seasonings.didnt have the packet.also didnt salt anything thanks to pinterest pinner comments.was a little thin after 2 1/2 hours so i sprinkled another packet of gravy mix in.it turned out amazing.none left.i will double maybe triple next time.thanks for the great recipe:)

I make Beef Tips but I use my crockpot ... in fact they are cooking as I type this commment. I use beef whatever is on sale: stew meat, roast or steak. If cutting it up yourself make 2" chunks of meat.
Recipe - 2 - 3 lbs. meat, 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup [can use healthy kind] and 1 package onion soup mix. Stir it up until meat is coated & cooked on low 6 - 9 hours. Serve over rice, potatoes or pasta. * Good with a can of mushrooms stirred in at the end of cooking time.

for all of you hunters out there, I've made this with elk and oryx meat and it was amazing. You might want to add about a quarter cup extra water because the gravy turns out a little dry due to the lean meat. Overall amazing over mashed potatoes!

Cream of mushroom soup is what the recipe calls for, so you did it right. I don't use cream of chicken soup in this recipe.

I made this last week for company (doubled the recipe last week)and am making again tonight. It was a huge hit. Kids and adults all went back for seconds. I did change a couple of things... I cooked it in my cast iron dutch oven (still did not peek) and because it usually cooks a bit faster than other ways, I only cooked it for 2 1/2 hours and it was perfect. I also browned the beef before I poured the gravy mixture over the top. Hubby doesn't care for mushrooms but I just chopped them up into small pieces and they cooked down into the gravy. Thanks for sharing the recipe - it is a new favorite in our house.

Wanted to say this was yummmmeh! Had it for dinner tonight and even though I peeked (oopsy) it worked out fantastic! My hubs hates and I mean hates anything cooked with mushroom soup in it, but he had no friggin clue and ate 2 servings lol Highly recommend this to everyone. Even tough cuts can be used and it is going in the crock pot next time!! Thanks so much for sharing this. It is a new fav at our picky house!

I eat gluten free and have used your recipe and adapted it with a gluten free gravy pkg mix, GF cream of mushroom soup, GF onion soup mix and some worcestershire sauce because I don't eat beef without it! I serve it with mashed potatoes and it's fantastic! Even my non-GF husband requests it, and I've passed it on to several people who rave about it. Thanks for such a wonderful and EASY recipe!

For those of you who said it was too salty, there is low(er) sodium Onion soup mix & brown gravy mix, along w/ low sodium cream of mushroom soup - so it may taste better with those.
Also wondering, for those who don't like mushrooms, if this would be good with cream of onion soup - and maybe even add in some cut up onions with it? I do love onions! :)

I am answering to the comment # 121, I use cream of onion soup in this and it always turns out great. I do not think you will need to add additional onions as it will have the onion soup mix and the cream of onion soup. This is absolutely devine.

Made this tonight for dinner, but the thickness of the gravy was like water. When poured over the noodles the gravy just sank to the bottom leaving the beef on top.

This was amazing! The only things I did different was use beer instead of ginger ale and added garlic. Used all lower sodium ingredients, and the liquid was definitely nice and thick like a gravy! Next time I will QUADRUPLE the recipe so I can have some in the freezer for lazy weeknights. Served on top of spaghetti squash, delicious! Thank you!

Made this tonight. Was really good. Will be making again.
Mine wasn't salty. I used one pack of onion packet and almost full pack of gravy. I used less meat - only 1.3 lb and cooked about 2 hrs. Maybe if I would have cooked longer would have gotten a little more tender? Was good though, will be making again.

I made this last night. Super easy and great flavor. I think (3) hrs was a bit too long. I'll definitely make it again and double the gravy and check on it after 2 1/2 hrs. Served with egg noodles....perfection!

I found this recipe on Pinterest and I must say it is soooooo gooooood!!! I had to make some variations the first time I cooked it. Instead of onion soup mix, (my son-in-law doesn't like onions), I used beef consomme and did not add any additional liquid. I also added garlic and onion powder. I cooked it in the crockpot on high for 2 hours. It came out perfect. I also served the tips (with mushrooms) over mashed potatoes.

Today I am making it at my son's home and am using beef broth in place of the consomme. It smells delicious and I cannot wait until dinner time.

Made these beef tips this week in the crock pot. I omitted the water but did add about half a cup of red wine. Cooked on low for about 4 hours, then added a tablespoon of watered down cornstarch and cooked for another hour before serving. PERFECT! This will be a staple in our house.

This was GOOD! I found this recipe on Pinterest. I used stew meat because that's what was already cut up in the package. I also used water, not ginger ale. And I also added the mushrooms. I served it over basmati rice with grilled asparagus, broccoli, and a baguette. We loved it! Thank you!

My in-laws are coming tonight (the whole family, so 5 people) and I'm making this as their "welcome" meal. I am so excited! I am doubling the recipe since there will be 7 people total, including 5 strapping men. I LOVE mushrooms, so I got 2 containers of fresh ones from the produce section. I don't care if no one else likes them, they can just suck it up! Haha! I think they all do though. How can you NOT love mushrooms? So weird. Anyway, I am using eye round roasts (had to get 2). I am glad you can use this with a lot of different cuts. So excited to try this, it seems pretty healthy too. I'm going to make a big bowl of mashed potatoes and probably some green beans or some collards. SO excited to get this in the oven today!!!

Made this tonight with water instead of ginger ale. Was worried that it was going to be too salty as other reported, but not the case at all. Seasoning was perfect, my husband said after the first bite, "won't need salt and pepper tonight."

We ran late getting home and I cooked it at 310-degrees for 2 hours 15 mins, then at 350-degrees for 15 more minutes. The meat was so tender and the gravy was the perfect consistency.

These words were actually said, "I don't know who said you were a bad cook. You must have never made this for them."

Simply, fast, inexpensive and most importantly it was DELIOUS!!

I've made this several times, but my kids don't like mushrooms. I use cream of broccoli or cream of potato soup and just omit the mushrooms all together. It is very good with or without the mushrooms.

I cooked this this morning for 4 hours in the crockpot on high. It was perfect. Gravy wasn't too thin. I followed the recipe exactly and will be serving it tonight over texas toast(like open face roast beef)with creamed potatoes and a vegetable. Thanks for this very easy, awesome dish!

I normally cook my beef tips in the crock pot, with beef broth for 8-10 hours, take the beef tips out, and add flour to the broth to make my own gravy. I did not get my beef tips in the crock pot in time today, so I am going to be making my beef tips with this recipe tonight. I am excited to try!

My husband made this dish tonight. We had it over rice. When I walked in the house, the smell was amazing. I asked if there were any leftovers (hoping for lunch tomorrow) and he said "no", it was that good. I had bought cheap stew meat and it was SO TENDER. Could cut it with just my fork. I always tell my daughter, "The simplest recipes are usually the best." This was great! So easy, and the meat just falls apart when it's done. I used Angus stew meat, but only had about 1.5 lbs. Still came out great because there was so much yummy gravy to soak bread in! I put it over plain white rice, because the gravy itself has so much flavor. Thanks for this keeper! I can't wait to eat the leftovers for lunch tomorrow. :)

Yum, yum, yum!! I love this recipe! I do find it to be too salty for me, but I'm pretty sensitive to salt so it could just be me (hubby adored it as is). Now when I do it, I just omit the onion soup mix and use fresh onion and it's perfect. This is one of my go-to recipes, especially for entertaining. It's so darn simple but SO impressive! Baked this while at church. Was pleasantly surprised by the tenderness of the beef, which is a good thing since my children will complain about how much they have to chew when eating beef/steak. Lazy kids! They all said they liked it.
