Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding

OK , Y’all were coming to the tail end of Paula Deen Week” Today’s is Day Five. I know I said I would lay off the dessert’s some, but what can I say. I was searching Paula Deen’s online recipe site yesterday and I came across the recipe for Not Yo Mama's Banana Pudding.
When I saw the picture it was another OMYGOODNESS” moment. So of course I had to make it. We love the Traditional Homemade Version of Banana Pudding. When I saw the ingredients I was definitely sold, so I was curious on how Paula’s simplified version would taste.  My husband loves Sweetened Condensed Milk, I know this because I have seen him eat that stuff straight out of the can, so I definitely think he will like this.  
Off to the store we went to get the ingredients. Oh man this is going to be good. Of course that’s what I say about all of Paula Deen’s recipes. When it comes to a good dessert recipe I usually don’t need any excuse to make it. 

This recipe is really easy to prepare so my kiddos will be doing most of the work and they love helping. I prepared a half recipe and used a 8 x 8 inch pan so I cut the following ingredients in half. (cookie’s, bananas, milk, cream cheese and for the pudding I used a 3.5oz box and a 10 oz carton of cool whip) The recipe turned out perfect.


Mackenzie made this dessert all by herself.  

Line the bottom of a 13x9x2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies.

Put a even layer of bananas on top of the cookies.


In a bowl combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a handheld electric mixer. Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth.


Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture and blend.

Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended


Yummo! we know this because my little taste testers have already dug a spoon in the pudding mixture

Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Goodness we couldn't wait any longer before digging in. All I can say is Yummo Good!!!!!! Mackenzie is so proud that she made this dessert all by herself.




Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding

2 - bags Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies
6-8 - bananas, sliced
2 - cups milk
1 - 5-ounce box instant French vanilla pudding
1 - 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 -14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 - 12-ounce container frozen whipped topping thawed
or equal amounts sweetened whip cream.

Line the bottom of a 13 by 9 by 2-inch dish with 1 bag of cookies and layer bananas on top.

In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using a handheld electric mixer.

Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together and mix until smooth. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture.

Add the cream cheese mixture to the pudding mixture and stir until well blended. Pour the mixture over the cookies and bananas and cover with the remaining cookies. 

Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Yield: 12 servings
Preparation time: 30 minutes

I love Paula Dean. She's such a character. Even my 18 year old daughter watches her food network show. This banana pudding recipe sounds delicious, especially with the Chessman cookies. I'll have to try it. Thanks for sharing.

I personally detest banana pudding but hubby loves it. His mother has been making it for him the same old way for years and years. I just emailed myself this recipe to make for him some time. He's never had it any other way than his Mom's and I'd love to see him try an updated version. I think he'll love it!

Oh my gosh, this looks so good. Not sure there is any way to cut the calories on it LOL. I love bananas and I love the chessman cookies. Yum!!!

Hi Audrey, not sure on cutting all the calories on this. I do know there is fat free sweetened condensed milk. fat free or low fat coolwhip, sugar free french vanilla pudding and fat free cream cheese. But the cookies I didnt see a low fat version of those so you gotta use the real thing when it comes to the cookies LOL.

I wanted to let you know that I made this tonight after dinner and let me tell you it was AWESOME. I LOVE how it was so light. Next time I make it though I'm gonna try and make it with non fat and light products (except the condensed milk) and extra bananas. Also I used Nilla wafers. The chess cookies were double the cost for 2 boxes. LOVED IT though !!!

Hello! I made this over the weekend for a party we were having after a Monster Truck show. I thought when making it that is was going to come out to rich and sweet. Boy was I wrong, the whole 13X9 pan was gone in like 15 minutes, I only got a little corner piece. :( Oh well, I can always make more I have the recipe!!! But thanks for another great recipe, the ones I make from your site are ALWAYS a HUGE hit! :)

I also love this! I make it with fat-free cream cheese, fat-free conden. milk, light whipped cream and reduced fat nilla wafers. I hope Pep. Farm starts making the chessmen in a sugar free or reduced fat. They make the others in them. Long-live Paula Deen!

I tried this recipe when looking for a banana pudding recipe as a subistute for a Birthday cake for my hubby. I took half of it to work and OMG they attacked it and asking when I would be making more! I even had people coming from other departments asking if there was any left! It was so funny. Needless to say, my husband chose this banana pudding as his "Birthday cake".

Tina, thanks for your blog. It is inspiring me to slow down and cook more for my family. Friday night we made the White Castle Sliders, of course being in Texas ours were 2 inches think (LOL)! And the Bananna pudding. That was so good, my little girl stuck her head in the bowl to lick all the creamy goodness. I'm going to meal plan this month with 13 of your receipes and 3 deserts (Friday was a test run). Wish us luck!

I tried this with low-fat and fat-free ingredients...delicious. Instead of putting a layer of bananas at the bottom, my daughter wanted to mix the bananas in the pudding mixture. I typically make my pudding similarly. However, adding the cream cheese took it to another level! Thanks for posting.

I've made this and it is delicious! I didn't have the chessman cookies on hand once so I used vanilla wafers instead and it was almost as good and a lot cheaper!! My whole family loves it, either way!

I have made this recipe many times after I was introduced to it by a family member one Thanksgiving. I have to admit that I was not a fan of banana pudding prior to this. This recipe also may be used to make an awesome "dirt cake". Just substitute crushed Oreo cookies for the bananas and chessmen. I usually add a couple of gummy worms on top just before serving for effect. It's to die for!
